IVRESS/Belt

IVRESS/Belt is a time-accurate finite element / multibody dynamics tool for predicting the dynamic response of belt-drives. IVRESS/Belt allows belt-drive designers to quickly build, analyze, and visualize belt-drives in an intuitive object-oriented graphical design environment. Typical applications include automotive accessory belt-drives, pumps,  compressors, washing machines, and dryers.

IVRESS/Belt Features

  • Time-accurate explicit time integration finite element / multibody dynamics solver.

  • Accurate modeling of belt-pulley frictional contact using an asperity based Coulomb friction model.

  • Template/spreadsheet (Excel) user-friendly interface.

  • Supports V and flat belts.

  • Belts can be modeled using thin beam, thick beam, shell, and/or brick finite elements.

  • Modeling of one-way clutches, isolator clutches, and rotational couplers.

  • Supports rotational and linear belt tensioners.

  • Prediction of dynamic response quantities including:

    • Hub forces.

    • Pulley angular velocities and torque.

    • Span tensions.

    • Span transverse vibrations.

    • Belt-pulley slip.

    • Belt-pulley normal and tangential force distribution.

    • Tension arm angle and torque.

  • Typical simulation scenarios.

    • Engine startup and shutdown.

    • Steady-state operation at any engine speed or a range of engine speeds for studying the system natural frequencies.

    • Cycling of an accessory such as the air conditioner compressor.

    • Acceleration/deceleration of the engine.
