IVRESS/Tire
IVRESS/Tire is a time-accurate finite element / multibody dynamics tool for predicting the dynamic response of tires and wheeled ground-vehicles. IVRESS/Tire allows tire and vehicle engineers to build and validate high-fidelity finite element tire models using a user-friendly spreadsheet interface. The models are validated by comparing tire test results with the model results using a virtual 5-DOF tire test stand. Typical uses of IVRESS/Tire include prediction of tire/vehicle: NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness), traction, braking, and steering on paved urban roads, rough terrain, and soft-soil.

IVRESS/Tire Features
-
Time-accurate explicit time integration finite element / multibody dynamics solver.
-
Accurate modeling of tire frictional contact using an asperity based Coulomb friction model.
-
Tire structural elements modeled using shell or brick elements for the rubber, and beam/truss elements along the tire meridian, circumference, and diagonals for modeling the bead, ply, and belt reinforcements.
-
Tire tread surface can be modeled using a high-resolution proxy polygonal surface attached to the tire outer finite element surface. This surface can be used as the contact surface with sof-soils.
-
Template/spreadsheet (Excel) user-friendly interface.
-
Virtual 5-DOF tire test stand model used to validate the tire model. The test stand allows varying the longitudinal speed, normal force, normal
deflection, camber angle, steering (slip) angle, and angular velocity of the tire. It allows measuring the longitudinal force, lateral force, wheel torque, steering torque, and camber torque.
-
The tire model can be used in full-vehicle simulations, including:
-
Steady state vehicle operation at any speed or a range of speeds.
-
Maximum speed / acceleration on long/side slopes.
-
Stability on slopes.
-
Drawbar-pull.
-
Wall-to-wall turn.
-
Cornering.
-
Lane change / obstacle avoidance.
-
Going over obstacles such as half-rounds.
-
Going over rough RMS courses: absorbed vibration power, NVH, suspension vibrations, track vibrations, components fatigue, etc.
-
Braking.
